Let Me Introduce Y'all to Y'all

English lost its plural you. A piece of Texan slang got it back, and it solves a problem communities actually have.

Introduction

Inclusive language is vital to communities. We should avoid gendered pronouns when speaking about broad groups, but some of these vernaculars are ingrained deep in language as well as culture.

Thankfully, southern hospitality prevails and provides a solution. This talk covers the history and proper usage of y'all: where it came from, why nearly every other language already solved the plural-you problem, and how to deploy the possessive and the double-plural without embarrassing yourself.
